North Las Vegas is a separate city from Las Vegas, with its own building department and a housing mix that runs south to north by age. The oldest blocks sit around the civic center and Las Vegas Boulevard North, built from the 1940s on. Eldorado and the neighborhoods around Craig Ranch Regional Park came in the 1990s and early 2000s. Aliante followed in the 2000s, and the newest tracts now reach past the 215 toward Tule Springs Fossil Beds. Nellis Air Force Base borders the east side, and plenty of military families rent or own nearby.

Rooftop units and add-on air in the older core
Many of the 1950s and 1960s homes near the civic center were built for evaporative coolers. Refrigerated air came later, often as a rooftop package unit with ducts added through a low attic. Common trouble on these:
- Roof curbs and duct connections that leak hot attic air into the supply
- Returns too small for the system, so it runs all afternoon and never catches up
- Package units old enough that a compressor failure means replacement
We repair and replace rooftop package units and split systems, and we price any crane lift in writing before we start. We don’t repair, replace or convert evaporative coolers.
Eldorado and the Craig Ranch area: second-generation systems
Homes in 89031 and 89032 are mostly on their second air conditioner. The original attic ducts usually stayed, though, and after 25-plus years of summer heat the seams and flex runs leak. If your system was installed before about 2010 it probably runs R-22, which is no longer made new. Aliante and the north end: original equipment, aging out
Aliante (89084) was built mostly in the 2000s, and a lot of its houses still run the AC the builder put in. Capacitors, contactors and condenser fan motors are the usual failures at that age, and all three are routine repairs. The newest homes in 89085 and 89086 may still have manufacturer coverage. Read us the model and serial number off the outdoor unit, and we check before we quote.
Wind, dust and the open north end
North Las Vegas sits at the open northern edge of the valley, where the wind picks up dust off the desert. That dust packs into condenser coils and air filters faster than in more sheltered parts of town. A blocked coil makes the compressor run hot on 110-degree days, and compressors are the most expensive part to replace. A coil cleaning each spring is cheap insurance. North Las Vegas AC questions
Can you replace a rooftop unit on a flat-roof house near the civic center?
Yes. We match the new unit to the existing curb or build an adapter, reseal the duct connections, and include any crane in the written price.
We put in a new AC, but our older house still won’t cool. Why?
In homes near the civic center the usual cause is the ductwork, not the new unit. Leaky roof-curb connections and undersized returns hold back the air. We measure airflow and seal or resize what’s restricting it.
I rent in Aliante and the AC is out. Can I call you directly?
Yes, but your landlord or property manager usually has to approve the repair. Give us their contact and we’ll send the estimate to them.
How often should the outdoor coil be cleaned out here?
Once a year, before summer, is a good rule in North Las Vegas. Add a check after a big dust storm. If you can’t see through the coil fins, it’s overdue.
My house in 89086 is two years old and the AC stopped. Is it covered?
Maybe. Builder and manufacturer warranties vary. Have the model and serial number ready and we’ll check.
